BAJA was formed in 1998 and currently has approximately 350 active members who regularly participate in club sponsored senior sports activities (including softball, golf, and bowling) plus engage in fundraising and volunteer efforts to assist local charities and civic activities.
Membership is open to all persons age fifty (50) and over, male and female, who reside in the general area near Green Valley, Arizona. The Club’s geographic territory extends along the I-19 corridor from Sahuarita to Nogales, including Green Valley, Amado, Ron Rico and contiguous areas. All memberships include spouse or significant other living with the member.
BAJA Sporting Club, Inc. (BAJA) was organized and exists as a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Arizona. The Corporation is organized and shall be operated exclusively for charitable purposes and to foster local, national, or international senior sports activities and competitions for its members within the meaning of exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, as amended, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code [the "Code"]. The corporation may carry out its purpose directly or by making gifts, grants, or other distributions to other organizations that qualify as exempt organizations described under Section 501(c)(3) of the Code.
BAJA has teamed with Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation (NRPR) in an award winning public / private partnership for the continued construction, development, and maintenance of Canoa Preserve Park located at 3500 S. Camino de la Canoa (south of Whitehouse Canyon Rd in Green Valley). The park currently has two adult softball fields, covered bleachers, restroom, and a ramada with two picnic tables and a grill. A trail linking the park with the Anza Trail via the Abrego Trail Head is under construction. Existing plans for the park include two additional softball fields, off-leash dog park facility, pickle ball courts, youth soccer field, playground, pedestrian path, concession building, plus additional ramadas, picnic areas, restrooms, and parking.
Tax-deductible donations to continue construction, development, and maintenance of the park are being accepted by BAJA.
